The Sedona area is one of the most popular destinations in Arizona, primarily known for its magnificent red rocks. The dramatic scenic views that are prevalent across the entirety of the land attract millions of visitors to this unique area. The weather of this desert community is relatively mild, but still involves a range of weather variations to appease residents of the city. From brilliant Arizona sunsets to occurrences of slight snow on the land, the red rocks provide a splendid background for remarkable scenery year round.
Sedona is located at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon covering a land area of about 18.6 square miles. The population of the city is currently over 10,500 reaching through both the Coconino and Yavapai Counties. The land rests at 4,326 feet above sea level within a distance of 26 miles of Flagstaff.
To maintain its wildlife, Sedona and the surrounding areas pay special attention to their animal inhabitants. Just 30 minutes from Sedona, the Out of Africa Wildlife Park resides, providing protection for the land’s most valuable wildlife. Animals to be found in the Wildlife Park include giraffe, zebra, lions, panthers, hyenas, tigers and more.
Recreation in the immediate area includes parks such as Slide Rock State Park—a place to spend hours of excitement during the summer months—and Red Rock State Park, just one more place to view the dramatic red rocks. Residents and travelers alike also enjoy the holiday festivities that are in the works all year round. Perhaps the most popular place to celebrate the winter holidays would be in Sedona’s very own Los Abrigados Resort and Spa, which features hundreds of residents’ displays of Christmas lights over the entirety of its lodgings for the winter months.
